MEN’S TENNIS SHUTS DOWN MARTIN LUTHER

CSS extends UMAC win streak to 79 matches

NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 9-0 victory over Martin Luther College this morning.

The Saints improve to 5-8 overall and 4-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matches. CSS has won 79 straight UMAC matches. The Knights fall to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of #Brendan Anderson# (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and #Dillon Sterle# (Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.) won by a score of 8-5. The No. 2 team of #Jacob Engelstad# (So.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Tucker Combs# (Jr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) won 8-4 as did the No. 3 team of #Tim Dean# (Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) and #Tom Schneuer# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./Central).

In singles play, Sterle rallied back to win at the No. 1 spot in a third-set super tiebreaker 2-6, 7-5, (10-7). Engelstad won his 12th match of the season at the No. 2 flight by not dropping a game 6-0, 6-0.

Anderson won at the No. 3 spot 7-5, 6-0 and Dean took care of business at the No. 4 flight 6-1, 6-0.

At the No. 5 spot, Combs won 6-3, 6-0 and the final winner of the day was Schneuer at the No. 6 flight 6-0, 6-1. That was both Combs' and Schneuer's first singles wins of the season.

The Saints will play as a split squad tomorrow when half of the team plays at the University of Minnesota-Morris in conference action, while the other goes out of conference to face Luther College (Iowa) in Minneapolis.
