Engelstad wins fifth straight singles match

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team fell to both Springfield College (Mass.) and Franklin & Marshall College (Pa.) to finish up its spring trip.

On Thursday night, the Saints (1-8) lost two of three doubles matches as the No. 2 team of #Jacob Engelstad# (So.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Tucker Combs# (Jr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) were victorious 8-3.

Engelstad then won with ease at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. The third winner for the Saints was #Kevin Hilpert# (So.-Stillwater, Minn.) at No. 5 singles 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

On Friday, the Saints fell in close contest to Franklin & Marshall 5-4. CSS got off to a good start winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of #Dillon Sterle# (Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Brendan Anderson# (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) won 8-6. The No. 2 team of Engelstad and Combs won again 8-3.

However, the Saints would win just two of the six singles matches. Engelstad won his fifth straight singles match and improved to 7-2 on the year with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. #Brian Lindberg# (So.-Hermantown, Minn.) earned the other singles win at the No. 3 position 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The Saints will jump into Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action next Friday when they face Northwestern College in St. Paul.
