FORT PIERCE, Fla. – After scoring a lot of runs in its first five games in Florida, the St. Scholastica baseball team was on the opposite end today, falling to Rutgers University-Camden (N.J.) 20-9.

The Saints fall to 7-3 overall with the loss, while the Scarlet Raptors improve to 6-5. The game was moved up to an 11 a.m. start after being originally scheduled for 2 p.m.

CSS errors and clutch hitting by the Raptors were the difference in today's contest. With two outs in the top of the first, Rutgers-Camden got a two-run single to take an early lead. In the bottom half, #Brian Marshik# (Jr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) and #Tom Juberian# (So.-Park Rapids, Minn.) had back-to-back doubles to lead off with the latter leading to a run to make it 2-1.

The Raptors then would plate eight in the second inning. Seven of those eight runs would be unearned because of two CSS errors. Also, six of the eight runs came with two outs. Another two-out, two-run single in the top of third extended the lead to 12-1.

The Saints climbed back into the game in the bottom of the fourth as Brian Marshik (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS ) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) plated two on a single to make it 12-4. #Scott Greening# (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) followed with a RBI-single and #Paul Kolodge# (Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.) had a two-run double to cut it to 12-7.

However in the sixth, the Raptors would get all six runs back. Five of those six runs came with two outs and two of those runs were unearned as the margin was back to 11 at 18-7.

#Steve Gerten# (Sr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) drove in two runs with a single in the bottom of the seventh, but Rutgers-Camden got both runs back in the top of the eighth to make the final score 20-9. The 11-run defeat is the most since an 18-3 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a NCAA Regional game in 2005.

CSS finished with seven errors in the contest, while the Raptors finished with 24 hits and drove in 14 runs with two outs.

#Josh Retka# (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) picked up the loss for the Saints, while Andrew Hoffman earned the win for the Raptors. Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs to lead the CSS offense.

The Saints will face Stockton College (N.J.) in a doubleheader tomorrow in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Those games will not be broadcasted on the radio. The first game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
