MEN’S TENNIS EARNS FIRST WIN OF 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team split its first two matches in Orlando on Monday by defeating Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) and falling to Augustana College (S.D.).

The Saints opened their spring trip with a 5-4 victory over NAIA's Saint Ambrose, their first of the season.

CSS took two of the three doubles matches as the No. 2 team of #Jacob Engelstad# (So.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Tucker Combs# (Jr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) won 8-6 and the No. 3 team of #Tim Dean# (Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) and #Brian Lindberg# (So.-Hermantown, Minn.) won 8-5.

In singles action, Engelstad cruised at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-2 for his team-best third win of the spring season. #Kevin Hilpert# (So.-Stillwater, Minn.) also didn't have much trouble at the No. 5 flight, winning 6-1, 7-5. The final and decisive win for the Saints came from #Joe Vidmar# (Jr.-Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing) at the No. 6 spot. Vidmar lost the first set 6-0, but rallied to win the second set 7-5 and took the third set tiebreaker 12-10.

The Saints closed out the day with a 7-2 loss to Division II's Augustana College. Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) earned his fourth win of the spring season at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2. Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) was the other winner at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3 for his first singles victory of the season.

The Saints will face the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
