HOT SHOOTING ENDS SAINTS TITLE HOPES

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota-Morris hit eight, 3-pointers in the first half and never trailed as it defeated the St. Scholastica men's basketball team 83-49 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Championship game this afternoon.

The Cougars opened the game with a 5-0 lead, but the Saints hung in the game and trailed by one on three occasions. With the score 14-13 Morris with 10 minutes to go, the Cougars would go on a 13-1 run to open it up to a 27-14 advantage. The lead would grow and the Cougars drilled a 3-pointer at the end of the half to go into the locker room with a 50-24 lead.

The Saints shot 50-percent in the half, but the Cougars shot 68-percent and were 8-for-9 on 3-point attempts. Morris' Kendall Proell was 5-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Morris kept on the attack in the second half and would capture its second-ever UMAC Tournament championship with an 83-49 victory. Morris last won the tournament title in 2005. The Cougars finish with an overall record of 15-12.

The Saints finished at 44-percent from the floor and were just 1-for-12 on 3-point attempts. The Cougars finished at 58-percent for the game and finished 10-of-17 from beyond the arc. Morris was also 13-of-14 from the free throw line and had a 32-16 rebounding advantage.

Senior #Max Dibrell# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored nine points to lead the Saints in his final game. #Matt Feuling# (Fr.-Foley, Minn.) added six points off the bench. #Jonah Dahlman# (Fr.-Braham, Minn.) had five assists. CSS was without second-leading scorer #Chris Hamers# (Jr.-Onamia, Minn.) for the second consecutive game. Kendall Proell had 17 points on 6-of-6 shooting to lead the Cougars.

The Saints end their season with a record of 11-17 overall. The Saints lose just one senior from this squad and have a good nucleus back to make a run at the NCAA Tournament next season when the UMAC gets an automatic qualifier.
