Tester’s Career-High 24 Not Enough in Loss to Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was outscored 17-9 in the final six minutes as Division II's University of Minnesota-Crookston went on to win 64-56 on Wednesday night at Lysaker Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles (4-2) jumped out to a 9-4 lead, but the Saints (1-5) responded with an 8-0 run with six consecutive points from #Brett Tester# as CSS took a 12-9 lead.

Later in the half with the score tied 19-19, Crookston went on an 8-0 run of its own to open up a 27-19 advantage with three minutes to go. The Golden Eagles took a 31-24 lead into the locker room.

The Saints shot 53-percent in the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles shot 58-percent from the field and outscored the Saints in the 18-4.

Crookston went up by 10 with 15 minutes to go in the second half, but the Saints answered with a 9-2 run to cut the margin to three with 11:17 remaining. A #Danny Schmitz# 3-pointer tied the game at 42-42 with 9:30 on the clock.

The Golden Eagles went back up five, but the Saints tied it again at 47-47 after a #Derek Anderson# 3-pointer with 6:21 to go. However, after a timeout, Crookston scored 10 of the next 12 points to open up a 57-49 lead with three minutes left. CSS got it down to five, but the Golden Eagles prevailed 64-56.

The Saints shot 49-percent for the game, while the Golden Eagles shot 58-percent. CSS was just 50-percent from the free throw line and was out-rebounded 29-22.

Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) poured in a career-high 24 points and added a team-high five rebounds for St. Scholastica. Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn./Cook HS) added 11 points and Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) had 10 points. Schmitz moved up to 14th on the program's all-time scoring list after tonight's effort. Jacolby Anderson had 24 points to lead the Golden Eagles, who improve to 4-1 all-time against the Saints.

The Saints will be at Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday as part of a men's and women's doubleheader. The men's game will get underway at approximately 3 p.m., following the women's game.
