DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team rallied behind sophomore goaltender #Patrick Sullivan# for its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) victory of the season on Saturday evening, knocking off No. 2 St. Norbert at Mars Lakeview Arena by a 2-1 final.

The Saints improve to 5-6-0 on the season (1-5-0 NCHA) while knocking off the previously undefeated in-conference Knights, who are now 11-2-0 on the season (7-1-0 NCHA).

St. Norbert jumped out to a 1-0 lead late in the first as Joe Perry slipped one past the Saints defense with an assist from Brandon Hogenboom.

While the 1-0 score held through two periods, St. Norbert out-shot the Saints 18-12 in the first two frames, but St. Scholastica came out firing in the third, out-shooting the Knights 16-9.

The Saints finally got on the board 13:32 into the third with #Jeremy Dawes# netting his fourth of the season with assist from #Neil Sauter# and #Riley Riddell#.

Less than 50 seconds later, #Alex Valenti# deflected a shot by #Carter Davis# into the back of the net to put the Saints up 2-1. #Chad Golanowski# also had an assist on the Valenti goal.

The Saints offense broke through in the third, but the night belonged to goaltender Patrick Sullivan (Kelowna, British Columbia/Chase Secondary (Fort William-SIJHL) ), who stopped 26 of 27 shots by the Knights, including a breakaway late in the third period and the pressure of a man advantage for the Knights in the closing minute after St. Norbert pulled goaltender Mike Martin. Martin had stopped 26 of 28 shots on the evening for St. Norbert before being pulled for an extra attacker.

Both teams finished scoreless in two powerplay opportunites, including a brief five-on-three opportunity for the Knights in the second period.

The Saints will face bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior next Friday and Saturday at Wessman Arena in their last games before holiday break. The action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. each night and can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC.
