DULUTH, Minn. – The third-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team reached the 30-win mark for the 11th consecutive season with a 14-2 victory over Martin Luther College tonight at Wade Stadium.
The Saints have won 21 straight games and improve to an overall record of 30-2 and an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) mark of 18-0. The Knights fall to 11-24 overall and 7-10 in the league.
After a scoreless pair of innings to start the game, the Knights would get on the scoreboard first when they would score off of a CSS error in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs and a runner at first in the bottom of third, #Sean Claugherty# (
Jr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) smoked a double to left center to plate #Brian Marshik# (
So.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) and tie the score 1-1.
CSS took control in the fourth, scoring seven runs in the inning. Marshik and #Paul Kolodge# (
Jr.-Cloquet) each had two-run doubles in the inning. #Brandon Peterson# (
Fr.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) had a sacrifice fly, Claugherty scored on a passed ball, and #Kyle Wojtysiak# (
Sr.-Proctor, Minn.) scored on an error.
The Saints picked up right where they left off in the fifth as #Joe Link# (
So.-Woodbury, Minn.) would lead off the inning with his first home run of the season and the first by a Saint at Wade Stadium this year to make it 9-1. It was the first home run by a CSS player since April 10th at Minnesota-Morris.
The other big play in the inning was a #Nick Lee# (
Sr.-Carlton, Minn.) double with the bases loaded that scored everybody to extend the lead to 12-1.
Kyle Wojtysiak (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) followed with a RBI-double and #Brian Peterson# (
So.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Hill-Murray) had a RBI-single to make the final score 14-2 in seven innings.

Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul) got the start on the mound for St. Scholastica and struck out four in six innings to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Brian Marshik (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS ) was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Saints offensively.
The Saints will finish off the series against the Knights tomorrow when they play a doubleheader starting at noon. Prior to the doubleheader, there will be a tribute to legendary coach John Baggs starting at 11:30 a.m. at Wade Stadium.
