DULUTH, Minn. – Playing five games in 27 hours did not slow down the fourth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team as it completed a tripleheader sweep of Northwestern College today at Wade Stadium to extend its winning streak to 20 games.
The Saints improve to 29-2 overall and 17-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The 20 consecutive wins are the longest since they won 20 during the 2004 season. The Eagles fall to 14-19 overall and 9-9 in the league.
In the first game of the day, CSS scored four runs in the third on their way to a 6-3 victory. The Saints pushed a run across in the first inning on a #Jake Gaub# (
Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul) RBI-single up the middle. In the third inning, #Nick Lee# (
Sr.-Carlton, Minn.) came in as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded and hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 3-0. #Joe Link# (
So.-Woodbury, Minn.) followed with a two-run single to make it 5-0.
The Eagles responded with two unearned runs in the fourth and then added another run in the fifth cut the margin to 5-3. #Brian Marshik# (
So.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) scored from second on a Northwestern error that would have ended the fifth as the score was now 6-3.

Jr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) then shut the door on the Eagles as he pitched a perfect sixth and seventh to improve to 5-0 overall. Gerten went the distance, striking out three and allowing just one earned run. #Sean Claugherty# (

In game two, the Saints used a five-run bottom of the third to break a 1-1 tie to win going away 10-5.
