DULUTH, Minn. – On a gorgeous April day in Duluth, the sixth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team had big sixth innings in both games of a doubleheader as they swept Presentation College in the home opener at Wade Stadium.
CSS improves to 23-2 overall on the year and 12-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), while Presentation falls to 11-11 overall and 6-7 in the league. The Saints extend their winning streak to 14 games, which is the longest since the 2007 season when they had a 15-game streak.
Presentation got on the board right away in game one as the leadoff hitter walked and then came around to score. The Saints tied it up in the bottom of third when #Steve Gerten# (
Jr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) scored on a fielder's choice.
After a Presentation error extended the bottom of the fourth, CSS capitalized when #Brandon Peterson# (
Fr.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) doubled off the left field wall to plate #Kyle Wojtysiak# (
Sr.-Proctor, Minn.) and make the score 2-1. #Sean Claugherty# (
Jr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) made it 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single to center. #Paul Kolodge# (
Jr.-Cloquet, Minn.) followed with an RBI-single to extend the lead to 5-1.
CSS then put six runs on the scoreboard in the sixth. Claugherty and
Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had two-run doubles, while #Chad Peterson# (
So.-New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village) had a RBI-single.
Paul Kolodge (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior HS) also had a RBI-groundout to make the margin 11-1. Presentation had one run come across in the seventh, but the Saints cruised to an 11-2 victory.

Sean Claugherty (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) and
Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) were both 3-for-4 with Peterson driving in three and Claugherty four.
In game two, CSS pitcher #Adian Kummet# (
Sr.-Brainerd, Minn.) struck out nine and allowed just three hits as the Saints blanked Presentation 8-0. #Jake Gaub# (
Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul) scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second to start the scoring. #Josh Retka# (
So.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) then drew a walk with the bases loaded in the third inning to force in another run.
Retka then tripled down the right-field line to plate Gaub in the fifth and
Chad Peterson (New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) followed with a single to score Retka to make a 4-0 game. The Saints then plated four in the sixth.
Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had an RBI infield single and

Kummet wins his fourth straight decision and improves to 4-1.
