SAINTS IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN CONFERENCE PLAY

OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team swept Northwestern College 9-0 on Saturday in Owatonna.

The Saints improve to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). CSS runs its conference winning streak to 68 matches. The Eagles fall to 0-7 overall this season.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of #Brendan Anderson# (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and #Tucker Combs# (So.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) won 8-3. The No. 2 team of #Jacob Engelstad# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Kevin Hilpert# (Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.) and the No. 3 team of #Tim Dean# (Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) and #Cody Bottem# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) both won 8-0. Dean and Bottem are now 7-0 this season.

In singles play, #Dillon Sterle# (Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) won at the No. 1 flight 6-2, 6-4. Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) had no trouble at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-2, 6-1. Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) at No. 3 and Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) at No. 4 did not lose a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Tim Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) at No. 5 singles only game up one game to win 6-0, 6-1. #Brian Lindberg# (Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.) got the final win of the day for the Saints at No. 6 singles to win by scores of 6-3, 6-2. Engelstad, Hilpert, and Lindberg have won three straight matches.
