CSS SHUTS OUT BETHANY LUTHERAN

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team opened up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action with a 9-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran College tonight at the Burns Wellness Commons.

The Saints improve to 4-7 overall and extend their conference win streak to 67 matches. The Vikings fall to 0-3 this season.

CSS won every match in straight sets. In doubles, the No. 1 team of #Brendan Anderson# (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and #Tucker Combs# (So.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) won by a score of 8-2. The No. 2 team of #Joe Vidmar# (So.-Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing) and #Jacob Engelstad# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) won 8-5 and the No. 3 team of #Cody Bottem# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Tim Dean# (Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) blanked their opponents 8-0. Bottem and Dean improve to 5-0 on the year.

In singles play, it was Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) at No. 1 winning by scores of 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2, Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won 6-1, 6-1. That was the exact same scores at No. 3 singles as Joe Vidmar (Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing HS) was victorious to win his third straight match. Cody Bottem (Thief River Falls, Minn/Lincoln HS) won at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2. Tim Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) at No. 5 singles and #Brian Lindberg# (Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.) at No. 6 shut down their opponents 6-0, 6-0.

The Saints will be in action again tomorrow when they Concordia-Moorhead at 3 p.m. in the Burns Wellness Commons.
