FORT PIERCE, Fla. – In its final two games down in Florida, the ninth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team swept a doubleheader from Centenary College (N.J.), winning game one 11-0 and game two 4-3.

The Saints now have an overall record of 11-2 and finish 8-1 in Fort Pierce. CSS improves to 4-0 all-time against the Cyclones.

It was all Saints in game one as they scored at least one run in each of the first four innings and plated four runs in the sixth on their way to an 11-0 victory. The only inning the Saints didn't score in was the fifth inning.

With two outs and one runner on in the top of the first, CSS got back-to-back RBI-singles from #Paul Kolodge# (Jr.-Cloquet, Minn.) and #Steve Gerten# (Jr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) go ahead 2-0. After two quick outs in the top of the second, the Saints got runners on by way of a walk and a hit by pitch. #Kyle Wojtysiak# (Sr.-Proctor, Minn.) then hit a double to right center to plate #Joe Link# (So.-Woodbury, Minn.) to make it 3-0.

Paul Kolodge (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior HS) scored on a Centenary error in the top of the third and then he and #Sean Claugherty# (Jr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) had RBI-singles in the top of the fourth to extend it to 6-0.

St. Scholastica put the game to rest in the top of the sixth as with two outs, Kolodge had a run-scoring single, Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) had a RBI-triple, #Tom Juberian# (Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) had an infield RBI, and Joe Link (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) was hit by a pitch to force in another run as it was now 10-0. Sean Claugherty (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) had a RBI-single in the seventh to make the final score 11-0.

#Peter Burg# (Sr.-St. Joseph's, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) went six solid innings on the mound to improve to 5-0 this season. Burg allowed just four hits and struck out three. Paul Kolodge (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior HS) had a big game one offensively, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

St. Scholastica had to rally to win game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth on its way to a 4-3 victory.

The Cyclones got off to a good start with a two-run single in the top of the first. Both runs were unearned as a passed ball extended the inning. Centenary got another run in the top of the second to go up 3-0.

The Saints got on the board in the bottom of the second after #Brandon Peterson# (Fr.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) led off the inning with a double. He later scored on a Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) groundout. In the bottom of the fourth, Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) led off with a single and #Jake Gaub# (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul) followed with a RBI-double to cut the lead to 3-2. With one out, Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) doubled to plate Gaub and tie the score 3-3. After an infield single moved Peterson to third, Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) followed with an infield single of his own to score Peterson and give CSS a 4-3 lead.

The Cyclones would get a hit in both the fifth and sixth innings, but would not have a runner reach second base and #Adian Kummet# (Sr.-Brainerd, Minn.) shut the door for his first win of the season as the Saints prevailed 4-3.

Kummet went the distance, striking out 14 batters, which is tied for the third-most in program history. He allowed five hits and only one earned run. #Andy Manos# (So.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) were both 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Saints offense.

The Saints return to Minnesota and will not be in action until Friday, March 27th when they begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action at Bethany Lutheran College.
