OXFORD NARROWLY DEFEATS MEN’S TENNIS

ORLANDO, Fla. – In its final match in Florida, the St. Scholastica men's tennis team was defeated by Oxford College of Emory (Ga.) by a narrow score of 5-4 today.

The Saints won two of the three doubles matches. The No. 2 team of #Joe Vidmar# (So.-Chisholm, Hibbing, Minn.) and #Jacob Engelstad# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) won in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-4). The No. 3 team of #Cody Bottem# (Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Tim Dean# (Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) remained undefeated on the season as they topped their opponents 8-1.

Oxford College won the top four singles matches, including winning a super tiebreaker at the No.1 flight. #Kevin Hilpert# (Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.) at No. 5 singles cruised by his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Then at No. 6 singles, #Brian Lindberg# (Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.) won by scores of 6-3, 6-0.

The Saints, who are now 3-7, return to Duluth and open up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action when they host Bethany Lutheran College in the Burns Wellness Commons next Friday at 7 p.m.
