FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team scored five runs in both the first and third innings on their way to a 14-4 victory this morning over La Roche College (Pa.) in Fort Pierce, Fla.
The Saints remain unbeaten down in Florida at 6-0 and have a 9-1 overall record.
After La Roche got one run in the top of the first, #Paul Kolodge# (
Jr.-Cloquet, Minn.) had a RBI-double in the bottom of the inning to score #Chad Peterson# (
So.-New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village). #Jake Gaub# (
Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul) followed with a two-run double to make it 3-1 CSS. #Steve Gerten# (
Jr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) made it three straight doubles to drive in Gaub and the score was now 4-1. #Brandon Peterson# (
Fr.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) had the final RBI of the inning to extend it to 5-1.
After the Redhawks picked up a run in the top of the third, the Saints responded with RBI singles by #Tom Juberian# (

Sr.-Proctor, Minn.) to make it 9-2 in the bottom of the inning. Later in the inning, #Joe Link# (

The Saints once again answered two La Roche runs in the top of the fourth with a

So.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) sacrifice fly to make it 12-4.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had his third RBI-single of the game to extend the lead to 13-4. The Saints scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to end the game by way of the 10-run rule by a score of 14-4.
Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) earned the win on the mound as he went six innings. The Saints had 16 hits in the game.
Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) also led the Saints at the plate going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and singles.
The Saints will face Ursinus College (Pa.) later today in another nine-inning game. That game will not be broadcasted on the radio.
