FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team had no trouble with Manhattanville College this morning, winning in seven innings by a score 15-5 in Fort Pierce, Fla.

The Saints, who moved up to ninth in the newly released National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3baseball.com poll today, improve to 7-1 on the season. The Valiants six-game winning streak is snapped and they now have a record of 6-2 overall.

The Saints scored first in the top of the first with a #Paul Kolodge# (Jr.-Cloquet, Minn.) RBI-double. After the Valiants tied it in the bottom half, the Saints regained the lead in the second thanks to a RBI-triple by #Steve Gerten# (Jr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) that plated #Kyle Wojtysiak# (Sr.-Proctor, Minn.) and #Nick Lee# (Sr.-Carlton, Minn.) to make it 3-1. #Brandon Peterson# (Fr.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) followed with a RBI-single to score Gerten.

CSS extended the lead in the fifth to 5-1 with a Nick Lee (Carlton, Minn./Carlton HS) RBI-single. After a CSS error prolonged the bottom of the fifth, the Valiants had a two-run double down the line to make the score 5-3. #Sean Claugherty# (Jr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) had a RBI-double in the sixth to plate #Tom Juberian# (Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) to extend it back to 6-3. Paul Kolodge (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior HS) then drove in Claugherty with a single and Nick Lee (Carlton, Minn./Carlton HS) had a bases-loaded single to make it 8-3. Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) followed with a bases-clearing double to make it 11-3. The Saints added three more runs in the inning to make it 14-3. Kyle Wojtysiak (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) led off the seventh with his first home run of the season to make it 15-3.

Manhattanville added two runs in the top of the seventh, but that would be it as the Saints won in seven innings 15-5. #Jeff Adams# (Jr.-Two Harbors, Minn.) went six innings to earn the win on the mound for his first victory of the season.

The Saints will be back in action on Thursday when they face Oswego State (N.Y.) in a nine-inning game. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. local time.
