DULUTH, Minn. – The North Central University Rams used a 19-2 run in the first half and never looked back as it defeated the St. Scholastica men's basketball team 81-62 tonight in Reif Gym at the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints drop to 1-6 with the loss, while the Rams improve to 2-4. This is the first time in series history that the Saints have lost to the Rams at home.
After a pair of #Logan Schultz# (
Jr.-Perham, Minn.) free throws to begin the game gave the Saints a 2-0 lead, the Rams scored the next seven points. CSS would tie it at 10-10 halfway through the first half, but the Rams responded with a 19-2 run to go up 29-12 with seven minutes to go. The margin got as high 26 as the Rams had a 48-27 halftime lead.
The Saints shot just 33-percent in the first half, while the Rams shot 58-percent. North Central's Daniel Young was on fire as he had 21 points in the first half on 9-of-9 shooting, including three, 3-pointers. The Rams' bench out-scored CSS's bench 19-4.
In the second half, the Saints only got as close as the final score as the Rams went on to win 81-62.
St. Scholastica finished at 33-percent for the game, while North Central finished at 58-percent. The Rams made 11, 3-pointers in the game. The Rams also owned the paint, out-scoring the Saints 32-18.
