DULUTH, Minn. – On a night where just one of the eight goals scored was even-strength, the 10th-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team tied No. 9 University of Wisconsin-Stout 4-4 at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints' overall record now stands at 3-1-1 and their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) record is 2-0-1. The Blue Devils are 2-2-1 and 0-3-1 in the NCHA. When the teams met four times last season, just one goal separated the two schools. The Blue Devils knocked the Saints out of the NCAA Tournament last season.

CSS got out in front early as #Jeremy Dawes# (So.-Winnipeg, Man.) scored a short-handed goal 3:34 seconds into the game. #Jordan Chong# (Sr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) had the assist. With less than two minutes to go in the opening period, #Chris Meagher# (Sr.-Victoria, B.C.) hit the inside of the post and scored on the power-play to extend the lead to 2-0. Chong once again had the assist. The Saints had a 12-6 shot advantage in the period.

Just over a minute into the second period, the lone even-handed goal was scored as Andy Sternberg scored for Stout to make it 2-1. Sternberg struck again nine minutes into the period with a power-play goal to tie the score 2-2.

The Saints regained the lead 2:11 seconds later when #Austin Brown# (So.-Lathrup Village, Mich.) scored on the power-play. #Carter Davis# (So.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) had the assist. The Blue Devils responded 27 seconds after that with a power-play from Joel Gaulrapp to tie it at 3-3.

That was the score entering the third period until CSS took a 4-3 lead on a #Brett Corcoran# (Fr.-Parksville, B.C.) power-play goal two minutes into the period. #Riley Riddell# (Jr.-Wawota, Sask.) and #Jordan Baird# (Sr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) had the assists. Later in the period, Stout had the man advantage and tied it up with 6:53 left in regulation with a goal from Scott Motz.

Both teams had chances in regulation and in overtime, but the game ended in a 4-4 tie.

The Saints out-shot the Blue Devils 36-21 and controlled the action when it was 5-on-5. #Brennan Poderzay# (So.-Tower, Minn.) played the first two periods for the Saints and had 12 saves. #Zach Kleiman# (Sr.-Ottawa, Ont.) came in at the start of the third period and had five saves and gets credit for the tie. Tom Lescovich had 32 saves for the Blue Devils.

There were a total of 15 penalties in the contest. Stout was 3-for-6 on the power-play, while the Saints were 3-for-7.
