ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Teams from around the state came together for a final regular season showdown at Hamline University on Friday afternoon. This was the last chance for individuals to qualify for their respective conference championships. Representatives from Augsburg, Bethel, Concordia-St. Paul, Gustavus Adolphus, Hamline, Macalester, Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, Saint John's, Saint Mary's, St. Catherine, St. Cloud State, St. Thomas, as well as numerous club teams, all came to Klas Field to flash their end of season readiness.
Matthew Erickson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) came away as an event champion in the triple jump. Erickson's bound of 13.61m won the competition by nearly a whole meter. This was a personal best for Erickson, who ranks second in school history in the event. Erickson also led the way for the Saints in the long jump with a season's best mark of 6.54m to place fourth.
Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) took home first place honors in the weight throw on Friday. He marked all six throws in his series, with his best coming in finals. Monreal owned the circle with his farthest throw sailing 53.51m.
Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) continued to add to his trophy case with a pair of titles in the throwing circle. He claimed victory in the discus with a release of 50.97m. Beseth returned later in the meet to win the shot put with a throw of 17.98m.
Trevor Turner placed third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.83m.
Carter O'Bey (Alborn, Minn./Alborn HS) stormed to the finish line in the outside lane to place sixth overall in a blanket finish. His time of 22.56 was just off of his personal best mark of 22.50. O'Bey is the school's fourth fastest performer in history in the event.
Finn Eskeli led the Saints in the 400m dash with a fourth place finish in 51.99.Â
Ben Westholm (Duluth, MN/Duluth East High School) crossed the line first for the Saints in the 800m run. Westholm ran a personal best time of 1:58.09 to place tenth overall.Â
After a successful last shot at filling next week's championship roster, the Saints will recharge and iron out their prospective entries through the weekend. MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship action kicks off next weekend at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Look out for more updates on the competition that takes place on May 8th and 9th.
