NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The College of St. Scholastica baseball team split a MIAC doubleheader at Carleton on Tuesday, highlighted by a record-setting offensive performance in game one, before game two was suspended due to darkness in the top of the ninth inning.
The Saints erupted for a program-record 42 runs in the opener, rolling to a 42–9 victory. The total surpasses the previous program record of 41 runs, set in 2013 against North Central.
St. Scholastica scored in every inning and put the game out of reach early with an eight-run first followed by a 16-run second inning.
The Saints finished with 42 runs on 19 hits while drawing 22 walks and capitalizing on eight hit-by-pitches, consistently applying pressure throughout the lineup.
Luke Krull (Greenville, WI/Xavier HS) led the way with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, while Owen Maslowski (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater Area HS) drove in six runs on three hits, including a home run. Markus Isaiah (Centralia, IL/Centralia HS) added a three-hit, five-RBI effort with a home run of his own, and multiple Saints recorded multi-RBI games in a complete team offensive display.
On the mound, Zack Hlinsky (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) earned the win, working four innings and allowing three runs while striking out three.
Game two was a tightly contested matchup that extended into the ninth inning before being halted due to darkness. The game was suspended in the top of the ninth inning and will be resumed at a later date.
The Saints saw contributions throughout the lineup in the nightcap as both teams traded momentum into the late innings, but neither side was able to complete the contest before play was called.
St. Scholastica moves to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in MIAC play. The teams will look to make game two up on Saturday, when the Saints return to the area for a doubleheader agaisnt St. Olaf.
