Softball Drops Road Doubleheader at St. Catherine

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The College of St. Scholastica softball team dropped a MIAC doubleheader at St. Catherine on Tuesday, falling 9–1 in five innings in game one before a 5–2 decision in game two. The losses move the Saints to 5–13 overall and 0–4 in conference play.

In the opener, the Saints recorded seven hits but were unable to keep pace with a big third inning from St. Catherine. After trading early opportunities, St. Scholastica broke through in the third when Lindsey Ewer (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) doubled and later scored on a Kaylei Greene (San Bernardino, CA/Summit HS) RBI single to tie the game at 1–1.

St. Catherine responded with a five-run bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run, to seize control. The Wildcats added three more runs in the fifth to end the game early. Ewer and Greene each finished with two hits to lead the Saints offensively, while Bailey Ellison (Chaska, MN/Chaska HS) took the loss in the circle.

Game two followed a similar script, with St. Catherine striking early and maintaining control behind a strong pitching performance. The Saints were limited to three hits in the contest and struck out 13 times.

Trailing 3–0, St. Scholastica showed life in the sixth inning. Rita Langford (Webster, MN/Northfield Senior HS) led off with a single, and Lindsey Ewer (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) delivered an RBI triple to get the Saints on the board. An error later in the inning allowed a second run to score, cutting the deficit to 3–2.

However, St. Catherine answered immediately with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to restore separation and close out the sweep. Ewer accounted for the Saints' lone extra-base hit with her triple, while Langford and Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, MN/Mahtomedi HS) each added singles. Aleah Shogren (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs on 11 hits.

St. Scholastica will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Crown College.
