Softball Swept in Doubleheader at Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The St. Scholastica softball team dropped both ends of a MIAC doubleheader at Bethel on Monday, falling 12-1 in five innings in game one before a 6-0 setback in game two.

In the opener, Bethel jumped out early and never looked back, scoring four runs in the first inning and erupting for seven more in the second to build an 11-0 advantage. The Saints were limited offensively, recording four hits in the game, with Ally Breidenbach (St. Cloud, MN/Apollo HS) leading the way with a 2-for-2 performance and driving in the team's lone run in the fourth inning. Abigail Gooden (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunderridge HS) and Adie Potratz (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) each added a hit.

The Royals finished with 12 hits and were paced by Sidney Bartels (2-for-2, two RBI) and Molly Closser (2-for-3, two RBI). St. Scholastica used two pitchers in the game, with Aleah Shogren (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) taking the loss after Bethel's big first two innings.

Game two followed a similar script early, as Bethel struck for four runs in the first inning and added another in the third to take control. The Saints were held to just three hits and were unable to break through against Royals starter Brianna Tix, who allowed only two hits over six shutout innings.

Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS), Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, MN/Mahtomedi HS), and Santanna Heise (Rochester, MN/Mayo HS) each recorded a hit for St. Scholastica. Bailey Ellison (Chaska, MN/Chaska HS) went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs on 12 hits across six innings.

Bethel's offense was again balanced, with Abby Otterness homering and Sidney Bartels also going deep as part of a 12-hit effort.

With the losses, the Saints move to 7-20 overall on the season.
