ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A slew of metro teams capitalized on the pristine early season weather during a rare Monday afternoon meet. Hamline hosted athletes from Augsburg, Bethel, Concordia Moorhead, Concordia St. Paul, Crown, Macalester, Minnesota, Minnesota - Morris, Northwestern - St. Paul, St. John's, and UW-Superior. With temps settling into the low 70's for the peak of the day, all event groups got to relish in late-season conditions for their outdoor debuts.

Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) wasted no time getting back into the throwing circle. Beseth won the discus with a toss of 48.57m. Josh Monreal and Mason Sundquist (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) finished a few meters back in fifth and sixth place. Their best tosses went 40.25m and 40.14m, respectively.

However, Beseth really made his mark in the hammer throw on Monday afternoon. Beseth uncorked a huger personal record throw of 54.77m to win the competition and move into third on the all-time St. Scholastica performance list.

Monreal had a monster day as well, with his best hammer toss flying 53.56m, finishing just behind his teammate.

Sundquist pulled together another personal best in the shot put. His best toss of 13.74m placed him seventh overall. This mark improves Sundquist's standing as the eighth farthest shot putter in school history.

Anthony Mahowald (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) found another title for the Saints in the field events. Mahowald leapt to a personal best of 6.72m to take the crown. This slid Mahowald up to number four overall on the school record list.

Trevor Turner placed second overall in the high jump. Turner's personal best jump of 1.95m set a new school record for the Saints track and field team.

On the track, Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) made himself double champion in the long sprints. First, Kubicek broke the tape in the 400m dash. His time of 48.44 seconds was just .04 off of his school record that was set last May.

In the 200, Kubicek wound up running into a steep headwind. Even so, he won the race in style with a time of 22.45 seconds.

Carter O'Bey (Alborn, Minn./Alborn HS) ran to a fifth place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.18 seconds.

Jeffrey Kayfes (Buhl, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl HS) ran a massive personal record in the 800m dash. Running nearly perfect even splits, Kayfes won his heat in 2:00.92. This run was good for fifth overall in the meet.
In the 1500m run, Connor Feldt and Ben Westholm (Duluth, MN/Duluth East High School) raced to tenth and twelfth place performances in a stacked field. Feldt's time of 4:05.56 and Westholm's at 4:07.74 move them into the seventh and tenth place times on Saints all-time performance list.

In the 5000m run, Evan Bumgardner cruised to a new personal best time of 15:53.43 seconds. This is the ninth fastest time in school history.

The team will get a couple more training sessions in before taking another brief hiatus for Easter Break. They'll return to action on April 11th at Bethel University.
