BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — St. Scholastica's Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) finished as the national runner-up in the men's shot put Saturday at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, placing second for the second consecutive year at the national meet. Beseth recorded a top mark of 18.42 meters (60-5.25), finishing just 0.10 meters behind national champion Gage Stankiewicz of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, who won the event with a throw of 18.52 meters (60-9.25).
Beseth opened his series at 17.29 meters, followed by 17.27 meters on his second attempt. He then reached 18.00 meters on his third throw to move into position to qualify among the top nine for the finals and earn three additional attempts.
In the finals, Beseth fouled on both his fourth and fifth throws before delivering his best mark of the day — 18.42 meters — on his sixth and final attempt. That throw moved him into second place, but Stankiewicz's winning mark of 18.52 meters held up to give Beseth another national runner-up finish by the narrowest of margins.
The performance capped another strong indoor season for the Saints thrower, who once again finished among the top competitors in the country at the NCAA Division III Championships.
