AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The College of St. Scholastica baseball team earned a 10–3 win over Thomas College on Wednesday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.
Jonathan Stoeckle (Fresno, CA/Clovis West HS) started on the mound for the Saints and delivered a strong outing, pitching five innings while striking out seven. He allowed just one earned run and threw 78 pitches, keeping Thomas in check through the middle innings.
The Saints' bullpen followed with a solid effort. Payden Joyce (Parker, Co/Lutheran HS) pitched one inning of relief, allowing one hit while striking out one. Kellan Graning (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) added a scoreless inning and struck out two, and Garrett Green (Riverside, CA/Martin Luther King HS) closed the game with two innings of work, striking out five while allowing one earned run.
St. Scholastica's offense produced 11 hits and built its lead early, scoring in five of the first six innings. Tommy Crupi (Gilbert, AZ/San Tan Charter) led the Saints at the plate with a four-hit performance that included a home run and a double. He drove in four runs and scored three times.
Finley Spicer (Aberdeen, N.C./Union Pines HS (Limestone University)) added a double and scored twice, while Tyler Tiedeman (Las Vegas, NV/Faith Lutheran HS) contributed a hit and an RBI along with a sacrifice. Max Israel (Cottage Grove, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) also homered as part of the Saints' offensive output.
The Saints capitalized on early opportunities, including three Thomas errors in the first three innings, to build a lead they would not relinquish. Crupi's two-run home run in the third inning and a two-run double in the sixth helped extend the advantage.
Thomas finished with three runs on six hits and added two runs in the ninth inning during a late rally, but the Saints' early offensive production and steady pitching secured the victory.
St. Scholastica improved to 7–3 with the win and will return to action Thursday against Suffolk at Northeast Regional Park in Auburndale, Florida.
