DULUTH, Minn. — The St. Scholastica men's basketball team put together a competitive effort Wednesday night at Reif Gymnasium, but Macalester College used efficient offense and a big night at the foul line to earn an 87–77 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win.
St. Scholastica was led by Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore HS) and Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/), who each scored 17 points. Nelson added five rebounds, while Butler hit 3-of-10 from three and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the stripe.
The Saints also got a strong inside performance from Aaron Keykal (Princeton, MN/Princeton HS), who finished with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting and a team-high 10 rebounds, helping CSS generate 17 second-chance points on the night.
Hayden Kloos (Chaska, MN/Holy Family HS) and Jayden Brown (Grantsburg, WI/Grantsburg HS) added 10 points apiece, with Brown also contributing seven rebounds and three steals, while Nebiyu Teklemariam (Alameda, CA/St. Joseph Notre Dame HS) provided a spark off the bench with seven points. As a team, St. Scholastica shot 38.2% from the field (26-of-68), knocked down 8-of-29 from three, and went 17-of-19 at the free-throw line.
Macalester was paced by Noah Shannon's 29 points, and the Scots leaned on production in the paint (46 points) and points off turnovers (21) to create separation.
