Saints Conclude Season With 5-0 Shutout Victory

2/21/2026 8:32:00 PM

Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's hockey team hosted the Wildcats of Saint Catherine University today, February 21, for their final game of the 2026 season. Today's MIAC Conference match up saw the Saints claim a tremendous 5-0 victory over the Wildcats.

How it Happened

First Period

The first period opened with both teams battling back and forth in an attempt to secure possession. It wasn't until seven and a half minutes into the game that the first shot on goal was attempted, courtesy of Morgan Mitchell (Farmington, MN/Farmington HS).

Not long after that shot, the Saints were on a sustained offense that resulted in the first goal of the game. Lyndi Schubert (Mantorville, MN/Kasson-Mantorville HS) recorded her first goal of the night, with assists from Grace Chapman (Blaine, MN/Blaine HS) and Mitchell.

The Saints' offense didn't stop there; continued pressure throughout the period, both on even strength and on power play, resulted in the Saints' second goal, scored by Emma Laming (Stillwater, MN/Gentry Academy), recording her first goal as a Saint.

The pressure from the Saints' offense was sustained even more following that goal. With just 59 seconds remaining in the period, Hanley Block (Alexandria, MN/Alexandria HS) received the puck from Alaina Hedberg (St. Paul, MN/Tartan HS) and Victoria Nelson (Mahtomedi, MN/Mahtomedi HS) and scored her first goal of the night.

Period one would come to an end with the Saints up handily, 3-0.

Second Period
It took no time at all for the Saints to get things going in the second period. It only took a mere 49 seconds for Block to record her second goal of the night, this time, assisted by Katie Sandelin (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) and Chapman.

Block's goal would be the only one recorded in the period; however, the Saints did not falter in their efforts to maintain their position in the game. The Saints went on to attempt another three shots on net in the period, maintaining their control primarily in their defensive zone, stopping 12 shots on net.

Third Period
The final period of the Saints' 2026 season was closed out with another strong offensive period, with the Saints attempting 10 shots on net before their eleventh and final shot, attempted by Schubert, found the back of the net, extending their lead to five goals. Schubert's second goal was assisted by Paige Blattner (Avon, MN/River Lakes HS) and Mitchell.

The game came to a close three minutes later, with the Saints ending the year with a 5-0 conference win.
