DULUTH, Minn. — St. Scholastica fell 4-1 to the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point Friday evening in a non-conference matchup hosted by the Saints.
The teams remained even through the first period at 0-0, despite the Pointers outshooting the Saints 9-6.
In the second period, the Saints found the net first with a goal from
Kieran Chung (Nottingham, Great Britain/), scoring at 8:23 with assists from
Jared Scott (Kenosha, WI/Christian Life School) and
Braden Junker (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS). Shortly after, the Pointers tied things at 1-1, and added another on a power play at 11:44. The Saints defense held for the remainder of the period, despite seeing a total of 31 shots from the Pointers throughout.
Beginning the third period on a power play, the Saints looked to even things up. Despite a shot on net from
Jan Jyvasjarvi (Espoo, Finland/), the Saints were unable to capitalize. The Pointers added another goal at 8:38, taking a 3-1 lead. Late in the third, the Saints pulled their goalie in a late push. The Pointers were able to add an empty net goal at 16:51, sealing the game with a final score of 4-1.
In goal for the Saints,
Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars) tallied 35 saves. Leading the Saints offensively were Jyvasjarvi and
Jared Scott (Kenosha, WI/Christian Life School), who each had three shots on net.
The Saints (4-9-1, 1-4-1 MIAC) will look to rebound against UW-River Falls on Saturday evening. Puck drop against the Falcons is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
