DULUTH, Minn. — St. Scholastica faced the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons Saturday evening for the Saints' fourth consecutive non-conference matchup. Despite firing 33 shots on goal, the Saints fell 3-0 to the Falcons at Mars Lakeview Arena.
River Falls scored twice in the opening period, scoring at 5:56 and 13:34 to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Falcons added another goal at the 3:06 mark of the second period. The Saints responded with offensive pressure, but were unable to capitalize.
The Saints continued their offensive push through the third period, but the Falcons' defense preserved the shutout to close out the game 3-0.
Goaltender Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars) had 32 saves for the Saints, while Isaac Suppin (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary) led the team with six shots on goal.
The Saints (4-10-1, 1-4-1 MIAC) will return to conference play against Concordia on Friday, January 16. Puck drop in Moorhead is scheduled for 7 p.m.
