The track and field team jumpstarted their stretch of winter meets with a trip over the bridge this weekend. Competitors from Lakehead University, St. Mary's University, University of Minnesota - Duluth, and University of Wisconsin - Superior joined in the action on Saturday.

It was Josh Monreal who had a statement day in the first throwing event of the afternoon. The junior strung together the series of a lifetime with all five of his marked throws surpassing the 18 meter mark. The first first throw of the day did wind up being his best. That mark of 18.48m is now the new standard for Saints throwers, the top ranked throw in the MIAC, and currently sits as the fifth best throw in NCAA Division III.

Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) finished second in the weight throw with a throw of 17.74m. Later in the meet, Beseth returned to claim the victory in the shot put with a throw of 17.84m. His winning mark smashed his own meet record of 17.15m from last year.

On the track, Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) seized his opportunity to polish up the record boards. In the 600m dash, Kubicek shot to the lead and never looked back. Kubick won the race in a blistering 1:21.36. This time broke his own school record, his own meet record, and was good enough to take down a nearly two decade old facility record at UWS.

Kubicek returned in the 300m dash to shatter another school record on the day. His time of 35.46 seconds beat the previous school record by over a second.

Anthony Mawohald leapt to a runner-up finish in the long jump with a best mark of 6.53m.

The Saints continue their streak of competitions with a meet at St. John's University next weekend.
