DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica goaltender Makenzie Cole (Cohasset, MN/Grand Rapids HS) has been named the MIAC Women's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week following a standout weekend between the pipes against nationally ranked St. Norbert.
Cole was brilliant in a two-game series against the No. 6/7 Green Knights, turning aside 81 of 82 shots she faced as the Saints earned a sweep at Mars Lakeview Arena. The Cohassett, Minnesota native posted a .988 save percentage across the weekend while allowing just one goal in more than 120 minutes of action, anchoring one of the strongest defensive performances by any goaltender in NCAA Division III this season.
In Friday's series opener, Cole stopped 43 shots, keeping the Saints ahead all night against one of NCAA Division III's most potent offenses. She followed that effort with another strong showing on Saturday, making 38 saves in a 1–0 shutout victory, securing her second shutout of the season.
She currently ranks seventh in the MIAC with a Save Percentage of .929. The Saints are back in action on Friday night against Concordia (Minn.), scheduled puck drop at Mars Lakeview Arena is set for 6:00p.m.
