River Falls, Wis. – The Saint Scholastica Men's soccer team traveled, once again, to Wisconsin, this time, to River Falls. This time around, the Saints pushed all 90 minutes of action, ending in a 2-2 draw against the Falcons.
How it Happened
First Half
The Saints faced an early challenge when River Falls grabbed a 1–0 lead in the 5th minute. But the Saints grew into the game with chances from Tim Bader (München, Germany/) and Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS), before breaking through in the 33rd minute. Gabriel Marchesoni (Surrey, Canada/) buried his opportunity to even the score at 1–1, swinging momentum to the Saints.
Goalkeeper Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) kept the match level with five first-half saves, including difficult stops on shots from the Falcons.
The Saints faced adversity late in the first half when a red card reduced them to 10 men, but the response was strong. Hallberg and the back line absorbed River Falls' pressure, and the Saints still created looks of their own, heading into halftime tied 1–1.
Second Half
Despite being down a man, St. Scholastica struck again in the 79th minute. Tim Bader (München, Germany/) found the back of the net to give the Saints a 2–1 advantage, capitalizing on a moment of transition play.
River Falls equalized in the 86th minute, but the Saints refused to fold. They continued to press forward, with late chances from Melvin Bergkvist (Vallingby, Sweden/) and Chastey forcing saves in the final minutes.
