Duluth, MN - The Saints softball team competed in their next double header today, facing against the Ole's of St. Olaf College. Despite trailing in the first game, the Saints were able to clutch a win to secure a split in today's competition.
Game One: CSS 1, St. Olaf College 2
The Saints began their first game with Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) hitting a single to center field, and later stole second but nothing came of it.
However, the Saints finally gained momentum in the fourth inning where Katelyn Hackman (Oakdale, MN/Tartan High School) would score thanks to a double to right center from Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, Minn./Mahtomedi High School) for a 1-0 lead.
After shutting down the Ole's all game in the outfield, the opposition finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning by scoring two runs from single hits to take a 2-1 lead.
Despite a hard-fought final seventh inning, the Saints ultimately lost game one with a score of 2-1.
Game Two: CSS 1, St. Olaf College 0
The Saints started the second game in the second inning with singles to right center from both Hackman and Jadyn Lind (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) to keep the Ole's on their heels.
Aryn Blumenthal (Linwood, Minn./Forest Lake HS) applied some pressure in the bottom of the third with a hit down the right field line.
After a couple slower innings, the Saints were back at it in the bottom of the sixth with Hackman and Nelson with singles, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunities.
Madi Glienke (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo Sheyenne HS) hit to center field in the seventh, but again was not able to make it home.
With two outs and a runner on third in the bottom of the eighth inning, Hackman came in clutch, delivering a single to right center to send Bolin home to take the 1-0 win in dramatic fashion.
