COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) wasted no time getting points on the board for the Saints in the weight throw competition on Friday. With a consistent series of tosses around the 17 meter mark, it was Beseth's second go of 17.81m that crowned him MIAC champion. This was a personal record in the event and betters Beseth's mark for second on the Saints all-time list.

Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) made his way onto the podium the same event. Saving his best throw of the day for finals, Monreal sent one 17.00m into the sector to move up the standings and snag the bronze medal. Both throwers received All-MIAC honors for their performances.

Sean Alfaro Diedrich (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) set the track on fire with an enormous personal record in the 60m dash prelims. Alfaro Diedrich darted across the line in 7.01 seconds to secure a coveted spot in the finals. This time is now fourth overall on the Saints all-time performance list.

In a short turnaround to the finals, Alfaro Diedrich proved his shocking drop in time wasn't a fluke. He exploded out of the blocks again and flashed across the line with the flock of seven other finalists. Alfaro Diedrich wound up sixth overall with a time of 7.02 seconds, after coming into the day with a personal best of 7.15 seconds. This performance grants Alfaro Diedrich All-MIAC honorable mention accolades.

In the 400m dash, Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) also ran to an All-MIAC honorable mention finish. Kubicek ran 50.04 seconds to place fourth overall in a race that saw the first two finishers break the facility record.

To wrap up the action for day one, the distance medley relay team of Ashton Niemi (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS), Carter O'Bey (Alborn, Minn.), Derek Douglas (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba HS), and Nathan Neu (Ortonville, Minn./Ortonville HS) got on the board with an eight place finish.

After day one of competition, the men sit in sixth place with 30 points. Action starts again on Saturday at noon in Collegeville.
