A trio of Saints headed to La Crosse to chase national qualifying marks on Saturday afternoon.
Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) headlined the day as the top throwers in the country faced off in the shot put. Beseth locked horns with the standing national leader throughout the final attempts of the competition. With just a couple of throws remaining in the contest, it was Beseth who was sitting atop the leaderboard with an NCAA leading throw of 17.57m (57-7.75). Adam Strouf, a Division I transfer representing UW-Eau Claire, snatched the lead in his final heave to scoot past Beseth's throw by merely two-centimeters.
Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS) and Lars DeWall kept each other company for a shorter race after their shared success over 3000m last week. The duo lined up against other talented midwest harriers in an attempt to punch their ticket to the NCAA mile field next month. This week it was Boone who hit the line first for the Saints in a time of 4:10.93 and a third place finish. His time is only .03 seconds off of his current personal best and school record.
DeWall surged into the finish right behind his teammate to finish in 4:11.45. The two marks rank the Saints 11th and 12th nationally.
