NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Saints Track and Field traveled to Northfield, MN to participate in a rare Friday evening competition. St. Olaf's Tostrud Center hosted Carleton, Hamline, and Macalester to take a final shot at improving their  form before the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend in Collegeville.

Trent Beseth's (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) triumphant season marched on with a monstrous series in the throwing circle on Friday. Both of Beseth's best throws bettered the previous facility record from 2006 when the NCAA Championships were hosted in the Tostrud Center. Beseth's explosive throw of 18.29m (60ft1/4in) catapulted him to the top of the NCAA ranking boards as the Saints turn into the championship leg of the season. Beseth also took home top honors in the weight throw with a toss of 17.01m (55-09.75).

Josh Monreal continued a great sophomore campaign with a third place result in the shot put, thanks to his best throw of 15.07m (49-05.5). He also strung together a solid series in the weight throw to finish fourth at the meet.

Anthony Mahowald (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) returned to action with an impressive leap of 6.51m (21-04.25) to place runner-up in the long jump.

Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS) and Lars DeWall again hit the track side by side on Friday afternoon. In pursuit of a fast mile, the two surged to the front and shared pacing duties for the eight lap affair. It was Boone who hit the line first in 4:12.05 with DeWall on his heels in 4:15.54.

Sean Alfaro Diedrich (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) matched his all-time best 60m mark in the prelims after clocking 7.15 seconds. He backed up his preliminary result with a runner-up finish in 7.17 seconds.

The 600m dash saw Saints cross the line first in both heats. Derek Douglas (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba HS) took command of the first heat and lead wire to wire to finish in 1:24.65. In the final heat, Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) mimicked his teammate and bolted for the lead at the break. Also leading from start to finish, Kubicek hit the line in 1:22.47 to place first overall. The duo are the fastest in school history in the event.

Ashton Niemi (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) placed eight overall in the 1000m run. His time of 2:38.95 improves his mark for ninth on the Saints all-time list.
