DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica opened MIAC play in impressive fashion Wednesday night, pulling away for a 68–48 win over Augsburg inside Reif Gymnasium. The Saints controlled the game from the opening tip, using efficient perimeter shooting and a disruptive defensive effort to move to 5–1 on the season.
St. Scholastica built a 17–9 lead after the first quarter and carried that momentum into the second, where timely scoring and transition play widened the gap to 35–17 at halftime. The Saints knocked down five first-half threes and turned 10 Augsburg turnovers into crucial points.
Evie Schmitz (Burnsville, MN/St. Louis Park) led the way with a standout performance, pouring in 23 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc while adding two steals. Ava Haus (St. Michael, MN/St. Michael-Albertville High School) turned in a strong all-around effort with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and a block, consistently impacting the game on both ends. Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) added nine points—hitting all three of her baskets from deep—while Kloey Lind (Pine City, MN/Pine City HS) chipped in eight points and five rebounds.
Augsburg threatened to close the gap in the third quarter with a 21-point frame, but the Saints steadied themselves and responded with a balanced offensive push in the fourth to seal the win. St. Scholastica's depth also played a factor, with 13 points coming from the bench and 11 points generated in transition.
