DULUTH, Minn. — The Saint Scholastica Men's Hockey Team hosted the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders at Mars Lakeview Arena on Saturday afternoon for game two of their opening series. The Saints built a 3-0 lead early in the third period before the Raiders responded with a late goal, but it wasn't enough as the Saints secured a 3-1 victory to even the series and earn their first win of the 2025-26 season.
Similar to game one, both teams were scoreless through the first period, with the Raiders outshooting the Saints 7-6.
The Saints' offense came alive in the second period when Braden Panzer (Grand Forks, ND/Grand Forks Central HS) scored at the 15:38 mark, assisted by Matej Palfy (Kosice, Slovakia/Gymnasium Trebisovska) and Isaac Suppin (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary). Minutes later, Jared Scott (Kenosha, WI/Christian Life School) extended the lead to 2-0 with a power play goal, assisted by Evan Pahos (Parker, CO/).
St. Scholastica capitalized on another power play opportunity early in the third period, with a goal from Hunter Hanson (Blaine, MN/Blaine HS) at 2:15. Hanson's first goal of the 2025-26 season was assisted by Gavin Gunderson (Roseau, MN/Roseau HS) and Panzer, giving the Saints a 3-0 advantage.
MSOE's Rylan Jockims scored at the 5:50 mark of the third period, but the Saints' defense held for the remainder of the game, including a key penalty kill late in the period, to close out the 3-1 win.
Gunderson led the Saints with three blocked shots, while goaltender Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars) saved 30 of 31 shots to end with an impressive .968 save percentage on the victory.
The Saints (1-1-0, 0-0-0) even their record and begin MIAC action next weekend against Saint John's University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 7th at Mars Lakeview Arena.
