Men's Soccer Drops Home MIAC Matchup to Augsburg

DULUTH, Minn. — The College of St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Augsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Harkins Field in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

After a scoreless first half highlighted by strong goalkeeping and physical midfield battles, the Auggies broke through in the 66th minute when Mitchel Munzing finished off a setup from Ceazar Daniell. Augsburg added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute as Christopher Plaza Alvarado converted from close range to seal the win.

St. Scholastica generated several dangerous chances early, including back-to-back saves by Augsburg goalkeeper Christian Hodges on shots from sophomore forward Gabriel Marchesoni (Surrey, Canada/) and freshman forward Tim Bader (München, Germany/) in the opening three minutes. The Saints kept pace throughout the first half, with senior goalkeeper Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) turning in a standout performance — finishing with seven saves, including multiple diving stops.

Despite consistent energy from CSS, including late efforts by junior midfielder Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS) and Bader, the Saints couldn't find the back of the net. Augsburg's press and depth proved effective in the closing 25 minutes.

With the loss, St. Scholastica moves to 2-10-4 overall and 2-4-1 in league action. The Saints are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 21 for a road contest against Macalester College in a MIAC matchup at 7:30 p.m.
