STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The College of St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell 2-0 to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a non-conference contest, as the Pointers scored twice in the first half and held off a second-half push from the Saints.
Connor Urban put UWSP on the board in the 10th minute, finishing a setup from Marcelo Chavez. Less than 20 minutes later, Urban turned provider, assisting Noah Johnson in the 29th minute to double the Pointers' lead.
St. Scholastica had several chances to respond throughout the match. Senior defender David Lopez (Jalisco, Mexico/Universidad de Guadalajara) led the Saints with a pair of second-half attempts, including a shot on target in the 63rd minute. Senior goalkeeper Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) made key saves to keep the deficit at two, including three stops early in the second half.
Despite a more aggressive approach after halftime and nine total shots in the match, the Saints were unable to crack UWSP keeper Noah Grieshaber, who earned the clean sheet.
With the loss, the Saints move to 2-9-4 overall and remain 2-3-1 in league action. St. Scholastica returns to Duluth on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Augsburg University. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
