St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled tonight to take on the Royals from Bethel in a conference matchup. The Saints trailed by just five points at the halftime break, but the Royals were able to pull away in the second half this evening, taking tonight's contest by a score of 73-54.
How it Happened
First Quarter
Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) scored the first points for CSS to kickstart the offense, but the Royals were able to go on a quick 7-1 run to lead 7-4 in the early stages of this contest.
Minutes later, Lind scored her second field goal of the night, as well as Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) getting a layup to fall.
Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) nailed a three-pointer on the Saints' next possession, which was followed by another Voigt layup and Haus knocking down another jumper to end the quarter with the game tied at 15-15.
Second Quarter
Haus would give the Saints their lead back, as Daysia Simmons (Albertville, MN/St. Michael HS) and Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) also got their night's started with layups to make the score 21-15 in favor of CSS.
The Royals would be able to tie the game back up at 22-22, and after the Royals reclaimed the lead twice, Ava Riegel (Rogers, MN/Totino Grace High School) and Madison Kenyon (Woodstock, IL/Marian Central Catholic HS) would tie it up both times.
Carlson would add the final points for the Saints in the opening half, as the Royals led 33-28 at the halftime break.
Third Quarter
Carlson and Riegel both got layups to fall to begin the second half for CSS, but the Royals still sat in the driver's seat.
Lind's first field goal of the second half helped put an end to a quick Royals run, with the Saints trailing 41-34.
Carlson was able to score once again at the 5 minute mark in the quarter, with the Saints still fighting an eight-point deficit.
Bethel was able to close out the quarter with an 11 point lead over the Saints heading into the final quarter of play.
Fourth Quarter
Lind was able to cash in her first chance to score to begin the quarter to cut the Saints' deficit to under double-digits.
Carlson had herself a successful trip at the free throw line just a few possessions later, but the Royals were able to expand their lead to 62-44 over the Saints at the 7:30 mark.
Haus and Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) were able to add to CSS' total with 3:30 to play, but the Royals were beginning to pull away in the closing minutes.
Haus and Bierschbach both added a field goal to close out the offense for CSS this evening, as the Royals were able to take tonight's contest by a score of 73-54.

The Saints (9-7, 6-3 MIAC) will be back in action this Saturday, January 25, where they will host the Pipers from Hamline. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
