Records Topple at Twin Ports Open; Beseth Leads Nation

Senior thrower Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) wasted no time finding his rhythm in the throwing circle after winter break.

Starting off the meet with the weight throw, Beseth threw 17.00m on the dot to win over sophomore
teammate Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS).

Although the weight throw proved a useful warm up for the Saints throwing duo, it was the shot put
later in the meet that set the stage for the biggest moment of the day. On Beseth's final throw of the
competition, he unleashed a monster toss of 17.15m (56-03.25ft). This mark shattered Beseth's own
school record and catapulted him to the top of the national rankings.

Monreal's runner-up throw of 15.40m (50-06.25ft) further solidified his spot as the second best indoor
shot putter in St. Scholastica history.

Sophomore jumper Anthony Mahowald (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) had a career day with his first collegiate victory in the long
jump. Mahowald's winning leap of 6.76m (22-02.25ft) moves him up to third overall on the MIAC indoor
season performance list, as well as second overall on the Saints all-time list.

Beseth wasn't the only record-breaker in the building on Saturday in Superior. Senior distance stallion
Lars DeWall torched 15 laps in time that broke both the Saints school record and the UWS facility
record. Dewall's time of 8:24.32 is the sixth fastest 3000m mark in all of NCAA Division III this season.
Fellow senior distance star Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS) placed second in 8:35.49 seconds.

Junior captain Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) paced the field in the 600m dash. After setting the tone of the race with
fellow captain Derek Douglas (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba HS), Kubicek stretched his lead out over the final two laps to cross the line in
first. His winning time of 1:23.58 is the fastest 600m time run in the MIAC this year.

Ashton Niemi (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had a breakthrough race with a runner-up finish in the 1000m run. Niemi ran over a ten
second personal best of 2:41.29 to move up throughout the five-lap race.

Senior sprinter Sean Alfaro-Diedrich raced his way into the finals of the 60m dash. He improved on his
time of 7.32 in the prelims to place sixth in the final in 7.28 seconds.

Freshman sprinter Emmet Prosen () ran a savvy race to win his heat and place third in the 400m dash.
Prosen clocked a time of 54.84 seconds.
