St. Peter, Minn. — The St. Scholastica Women's basketball team hit the road this afternoon to take on the MIAC-leading Gusties from Gustavus Adolphus College. The Saints trailed the Gusties by double-digits at the halftime break, and the Gusties were able to handle the Saints in the second half, taking today's contest by a score of 76-41.
How it Happened
First Quarter
Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) and
Daysia Simmons (Albertville, MN/St. Michael HS) got the Saints' offense started in the opening quarter today, as the duo both knocked down jumpers to start their afternoons.
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) was able to knock down a three-pointer midway through the quarter, with
Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) scoring moments later on a layup to make the score 13-10 in favor of Gustavus.
Carlson and
Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) closed out the quarter for CSS with layups to make the contest 19-14 with Gustavus leading after one quarter.
Second Quarter
The Gusties went on a 12-2 run before Imdieke notched the first Saints field goal in the second quarter, as she was able to knock down another three-pointer to bring the score to 31-19.
The Gusties scored twice more to end the quarter, as the score sat at 35-19 at the halftime break.
Third Quarter
Ava Riegel (Rogers, MN/Totino Grace High School) got the scoring started for CSS to kick off the second half, scoring on a layup to cut the deficit to 37-21.
After
Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) had a successful trip to the free throw line, Haus knocked down a three-pointer to add to her total in the game.
Moments after Haus' field goal, Imdieke was able to get a layup to fall, bringing the score to 48-28 with Gustavus in the driver's seat.
Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) scored six of CSS' next eight points for the Saints, two of which came from the free throw line and the other from the field, as the Saints closed out the quarter trailing Gustavus by a score of 58-36.
Fourth Quarter
The Gusties continued their success early in the quarter, as they were able to expand their lead over CSS with a 15-2 run to make the score 73-37.
Bierschbach was able to convert both of her free throw attempts with just under three and a half minutes to play in the quarter.
In the late stages of the quarter,
Madison Kenyon (Woodstock, IL/Marian Central Catholic HS) scored her first points in the contest on a layup, as Gustavus was able to dribble out the rest of the clock, taking today's contest by a score of 76-41.
