DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica baseball team pulled away in its matchup against the LumberJacks from Northland College this evening at Wade Stadium. After Northland led 6-1 after three innings, the Saints' bats came alive in the middle innings, scoring 15 unanswered runs to come away with a 16-6 victory over the LumberJacks.

Northland took an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring a run on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Saints were able to score a run on a hit-and-run with Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) scoring on a groundout by Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS), who picked up an RBI in the process, with the score tied at 1-1.
The LumberJacks responded in the top of the third inning, scoring five runs on the inning on four hits, to reclaim the lead with a 6-1 lead over CSS.
After Schelonka tripled to open the bottom of the fourth inning, Jack Harris (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (Skyline CC)) picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to make a dent in Northland's lead, trailing 6-2.
Jumping to the bottom of the fifth inning, Novak and Sam Shopbell (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake HS (Fayetteville CC)) both singled with one out in the inning to get a pair of runners on for the Saints. An RBI double by Schelonka scored Novak and later in the inning the Saints picked up two more runs on a Harris 2-RBI single, making the score 6-5.
Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes)) doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for CSS and later scored on a Nathan Wickham (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn HS (Concordia-Neb.)) RBI single to tie the game at 6-6. Shopbell would double one batter later to score Wickham and give the Saints its first lead of the day.
The Saints weren't done in the inning however, with Finley Spicer (Aberdeen, N.C./Union Pines HS (Limestone University)) driving in a pair of runners on a single and Harris picking up another RBI on a single, as the Saints now led 10-6.
Jumping ahead to the bottom of the seventh inning, the Saints added three more runs to its total, with Wickham driving in a run on an RBI single, and Schelonka adding two more RBIs to his total, to bring the score to 13-6.
Eli Oliver (East Montpelier, Vt./U-32 HS (Keene State College)) pinch ran for Harris after a leadoff walk and promptly stole second base for his first stolen base of the season. After Cody Horon (Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove HS (Northern State University)) drew a walk, Haapajoki brought both Oliver and Horon in on a 2-RBI double.
The Saints were able to get an at-bat for Andrew Rott (St. Augusta, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) who drew a walk, as did Wickham which loaded the bases. Beau Plaisance (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) ultimately scored the winning run for the Saints on an RBI single, giving CSS a walk-off 16-6 victory over the LumberJacks.
