Minneapolis, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's Hockey Team traveled to Minneapolis Minn. to play the #15 ranked Augsburg Auggies in a must-win game. The game would unfortunately not go in the favor of the Saints, as they would fall short 0-5 to the Auggies.
What Happened
Going into tonight's game the Saints knew they had to win if they wanted any hope of producing a playoff berth. The Saints would get outplayed in all facets of the game in the first period besides saves, where Cole would register 16 in the first. The Saints offense would produce only three shots on net, compared to the Auggies 17. The Auggies would convert on one of those shots, taking the lead halfway through the period at the 11:57 mark, they would hold this lead for the remainder of the game.
The second period was not much better, the Saints would get two more shots on net this period, registering a total of five, against the Auggies who would once again register 17. This time, the Auggies would score on two of their shots, one of which being a powerplay goal, extending their lead to three goals after 40 minutes played.
The third and final period was a period that the Saints desperately needed to win. With 20 minutes remaining in the game, the Saints would have to lay everything on the line if they wanted any hope of winning this much needed game. The Saints would get one more shot on net this period than the last, registering six. They held the Auggies offense off a bit this period only allowing 11 shots on net this period, however allowing less shots would not be enough, because the Auggies would still ring in two goals in the period, securing the win. The Saints in a final effort to score, would pull Cole at the 14:59 mark, she would return at the 16:08 The final score of the game would be an unfortunate 0-5.
Goaltending
Makenzie Cole (Cohasset, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) would play 58 minutes for the Saint, she would face 44 shots and register 40 saves.
Chloe Stockinger would play all 60 minutes for the Auggies, she would face 14 shots and register 14 saves.
What's Next
The Saints (7-15-2, 6-9-2 MIAC) will host the Augsburg Auggies (18-6-0, 14-3-0 MIAC) on Saturday, February 17th at Mars Lakeview arena. Tomorrow is also Senior Night. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
