Duluth, Minn. - The St. Scholastica Women's Basketball team took on the Cardinals of Saint Mary's this afternoon in a dominating showing. It was undoubtedly a Saints game, as they won 64-52.
Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) was the player to watch today, scoring 37 points for the Saints.
How it Happened
The Cardinals took an early seven-point lead, but
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) quickly returned the favor with back-to-back three-pointers just 30 seconds apart. She did not stop there, with another three-pointer coming a minute later.
Play remained fairly even for the remainder of the first quarter, ending with a score of 14-13 in favor of the Cardinals.
As the second quarter began,
Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) tossed up her first successful three-pointer of the game. And with every play reset, Haus found a window to drive the net.
Despite a successful showing for the Saints throughout the second quarter, both teams tallied 10 points from in the paint.
As the Saints headed into halftime, they held a 31-29 lead.
The third quarter showed similar results to the first quarter, with the Saints leading by a small margin once again (14-12).
Haus had 10 of the 14 points scored, two of them coming from three-pointers. Also, the Saints were able to draw one foul, and
Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) secured both of her free throws, resulting in a 100% success rate from the line.
To start the fourth and final quarter, the Saints held a 45-41 point lead and Haus showed no remorse, securing a layup just nine seconds in.
The Cardinals' jitters started to show, as the Saints were able to take seven points off turnovers and seven points off fast breaks.
Haus's pace did not change. She scored an additional 11 points in the final quarter and sank nine of her 10 free-throw attempts, giving the team an overall FT% of 75.00.
The game came to a close with a final score of 64-52. Six Saints scored and two hit double digits, Imdieke had 11 and Haus had 37.

The Saints will travel for the remainder of the 2024 calendar year but will return to the Reif Gym on Saturday, January 4. CSS will tip off against Macalester College at 3 p.m.
