Seitz and Shewchuk Pave the Way to a Saints Win

Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Men's hockey team defeated the Lumberjacks of Northland College tonight in a heated match on home ice. The Lumberjacks took an early lead but the Saints came back and took the win 3-1. 

How it Happened 
1st Period 
  • The Saints dominated the shot chart in the first period, outshooting the Lumberjacks 21-9. 
  • 11 Saints had shots on goal, with #37 Tristan Shewchuk (Saskatoon, SK, Canada/St. Joseph HS) having four. 
  • CSS had nine attempts to score between 8:45 and 11:25 but found the Lumberjacks controlling the defensive zone. 
  • At 13:17, Northland scored the first goal of the game. 

2nd Period 
  • It did not take long for the Saints to tie it up, as Hunter Hanson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) scored top-shelf with the help of Shewchuk and  #10 Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) at 0:40. 
  • The Saints outshot the visitors once again, for a total of 18-4. 
  • #15 Nick Lanigan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) led the Saints in shots with four. 

3rd Period
  • Despite the Saints being outshot 15-12, they held the Lumberjacks off from scoring. 
  • The Saints scored twice in the third, within 16 seconds of each other
  • Seitz collected his second point of the game and first goal at 5:14, with the help of #72 Evan Pahos (Parker, CO). 
  • Pahos carried this momentum back down to the Northland net to score the third and final goal of the game at 5:30, with assists credited to Shewchuk and Seitz. 

Notables 
  • Shewchuk tallied 11 total shots on goal and two points.
  • Goalkeeper #30 Brenden Stroble (Livonia, MI/Adlai E. Stevenson HS) made 27 saves on the day, only allowing one goal. 
  • Seitz found himself on the scoresheet for all three goals, tallying two assists and the game-winning goal. 
  • #6 Matej Palfy (Kosice, Slovakia/Gymnasium Trebisovska) had three blocks to help keep the Lumberjacks at ease. 

Up Next
The Saints will play two games next weekend against Augsburg University. They will travel to Minneapolis, MN on Friday for a 7 p.m. game before returning to Mars Lakeview Arena on Saturday, November 23 for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
