Fon Du Las, WI. - The St. Scholastica Women's basketball team completed their second road game of the weekend this evening against Marian University. Despite being down at half, the Saints took full control of the second half and won 75-67.
How it Happened
1st Quarter
Marian took an early lead and developed a solid foundation to keep ahead of the Saints. As the score hit 11-3 in favor of the Sabres, the Saints made a full-line change.
The Saints began to pick up the pace with the help of Lexie Imdieke securing a layup.
Ana Haus then secured her own rebound and landed a solid jumper to close the gap to 17-11.
Imdieke locked in a three-pointer with just seconds left on the clock, making a complete turn from the opening minutes of the game. Quarter one ended 19-15 in favor of the Sabres.
2nd Quarter
Haus walked onto the court with success in mind as she booted down the court in the first few seconds and hit a layup to bring the Saints within two.
Both teams went minutes without a point, and turnover after turnover. But Imdieke reached between a pass directed to a Sabre and turned the ball over to her teammate Haus, who attempted a three-pointer but missed just slightly.
But
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) turned around and rebounded a missed attempt from the Sabres, she dropped a three-pointer to keep the Saints within two.
The Sabres began running away with it, capitalizing on the passionate Saints who continued to try to stop the Sabres from scoring.
The score hit 35-25 for the Sabres, and
Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) then hit a jumper to keep the momentum going with just two minutes left before half.
Marian was persistent in their quest for defeat, adding six more points before the half. Sabres led 41-29.
3rd Quarter
The third quarter showed the skill of both teams, Lind and Haus went hoop for hoop, with a layup and jumper from Lind and a three-pointer from Haus that had the whole bench on their feet.
Daysia Simmons (Albertville, MN/St. Michael HS) took this energy to the next level and received a pass from
Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) to put another three points on the board for the Saints.
It was the Saints' show during the third quarter, as all five ladies on the court assisted or tossed up shots. Continuing to close the gap and put extreme pressure on the Sabres.
Haus brought the score within one point heading into the final quarter, she ran in a driving layup with two minutes left on the clock. The Saints had the Sabres shaking in their shoes and prevented them from scoring again in the quarter.
The Sabres led 54-53 heading into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
Imdieke walked onto the court with confidence knocking down a three-pointer from beyond the arch taking a 56-53 lead.
The Sabres responded quickly by making a jumper and two free throws soon after and taking the lead back 58-57.
The whole fourth quarter was a battle for the Saints, and it all came down to free throws. The Saints had a total of eight free throw attempts and knocked down seven of those eight.
Ongoing efforts from the Saints to prevent the Sabres from scoring brought home the win. The Saints defeated the Sabers 75-67.

The Saints will play on home court for the first time this season, next Saturday, November 23 against Northland College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
