Women’s Basketball Wins Home Opener With Lights Out Performance


Duluth, MN. – The St. Scholastica Women's basketball team won its home opener against the LumberJills from Northland College. The Saints took an early lead and played an incredible game, winning today's contest by a score of 103-42.

How it Happened
1st Quarter

The Saints got three of their first four field goals to fall from the three-point line, as Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) and Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) gave the Saints an early 11-2 lead. 
After layups from Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) and Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS), Haus cashed in her second three-pointer of the game, bringing the score to 18-2. 
The LumberJills would score a three-pointer of their own, but the Saints would quickly respond with Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) scoring the Saints' next five points. 
Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) went on a tear to end the quarter, scoring nine of the Saints' last 13 points of the quarter, giving CSS a 36-7 lead after one quarter. 

2nd Quarter
Imdieke and Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) both scored layups to get the Saints offense going to begin the second quarter. 
Following layups from Lind and Voigt, Daysia Simmons (Albertville, MN/St. Michael HS) nailed a three-pointer to score her first points of the half, expanding the lead to 49-8. 
Layups from Bierschbach, Carlson, and Kate Toewe (Hibbing, MN/Hibbing HS) would close out the half for CSS, taking a 55-11 lead into the halftime break. 

3rd Quarter
Imdieke scored the first points for the Saints to kick off the second half, converting a three-pointer to set the tone for CSS. 
Carlson would score the next four field goals for CSS, all of which came off of blocks or steals by the Saints, bringing the score to 68-11. 
Madison Kenyon (Woodstock, IL/Marian Central Catholic HS) scored her first points of the game on a layup with 5:49 to play in the quarter, followed by Toewe's second field goal. 
Ava Riegel (Rogers, MN/Totino Grace High School) and Kenyon would convert layups to end the quarter for the Saints, with CSS leading 80-18 entering the fourth quarter. 

4th Quarter
Maddie Lowe (International Falls, MN/Falls HS) would score the first basket for CSS to begin the quarter, which was followed by a three-pointer from Paxyn Rendahl (Pine Island, MN/Pine Island HS) to expand CSS' lead to 63 points. 
Later in the quarter, Kenyon and Brooklyn Sarauer (Bloomer, WI/Bloomer HS) would both score on three-pointers to bring the score to 95-27. 
Closing out the quarter, Sarauer would score the final points for the Saints on a layup, as the Saints took today's contest by a score of 103-36. 

Top Performers
- Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) led all players today with a season-high 23 points, while also recording five steals in just 12 minutes of play.
- Madison Kenyon (Woodstock, IL/Marian Central Catholic HS) recorded a double-double today, scoring 12 points to go along with 12 rebounds in the win. 
- Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) recorded four steals in the win, as the sophomore also recorded four assists. 

Up Next
The Saints (2-3, 0-0) will be back in action on Wednesday, November 27th, when they will travel to Superior, Wisconsin to take on the Yellowjackets from UW-Superior. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
