Box Score Northfield, MN. – The St. Scholastica Men's Soccer team fell this afternoon in a conference matchup against the Knights from Carleton College. The Knights scored the opening goal in the early moments to take a 1-0 into halftime, and despite the Saints' efforts, the Knights scored twice more to take today's contest by a score of 3-0.
How it Happened
First Half
The Knights broke the scoreless game on its first shot on goal, taking a 1-0 lead over the Saints in the seventh minute of the match.
CSS was denied on its first shot on goal in the 16th minute, as Ayub Mohamed (Lewiston ME/Park High School) was nearly able to tie the game at 1-1, but the Saints still found themselves trailing 1-0.
Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) recorded his first save of the afternoon in the 24th minute, keeping the score at 1-0.
The Saints' last opportunity to tie the score in the first half came in the closing minutes, as Mohamed was denied once again, with Carleton taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Second Half
After Hallberg recorded an early save, Gabriel Marchesoni's (Surrey, BC, CA) shot in the 53rd minute was just wide of the net and nearly tied the game, but the Saints were still looking for its first goal of the game.
Less than 10 minutes later, in the 61st minute, Carleton added another goal to its total, expanding its lead to 2-0 over the Saints.
After nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth play between the squads, Hallberg would record another pair of saves, keeping the score as it sat at 2-0.
The Knights would score the third and final goal of the afternoon in the 84th minute, scoring on a rebound off a shot, to take a 3-0 lead as the Saints fell short in today's match.
